One of the many shops I painted this month was Magpie in Horncastle which has replaced the Computer shop that ceased trading earlier in the year. Magpie is a clothing and gift shop and has moved from its very successful home in the "Joseph Banks Centre". Kate the new owner, has spent many hours refurbishing the shop which now looks a treat as you can see below. it's well worth a visit next time you go to Horncastle.

It was time to add a few more names to the Woodhall and Coningsby Round Table honours board this month. I varnished & lettered all the names on a few years ago and now it was time to update the board. It's situated in the entrance of the very popular "Abbey Lodge" at Kirkstead. So If you find yourself there one night keep an eye out for the board in the entrance and see what you think. Back to AlfordI had another call from the lovely ladies at Alford craft shop this month as they have now aquired and refurbished another property (The Bakehouse) with a kiln and various other machines for teaching people many crafts. There is a great selection of courses to go on including pottery, jewellery and stained glass window making. Below is the new sign and also the other one I did some months earlier.
This has been a most memorable year!! ,what with the thrill of signwriting in front of the Red Arrows, and on both Steep Hill and the Bailgate in Lincoln, also having three vehicles I had painted featured in three seperate top National magazines (a real thrill).
Well I hit another high this month when I worked in the very historic Mayor's Parlour which is situated in Lincoln's famous Stonebow, putting Gold leaf on one of their very treasured honours boards. ....Some of which date back to 15'00s as you can see below. The building was full of atmosphere!! and it was truly a real honour. lt really is a great feeling knowing that I had followed so many fantastic signwriters over the years and that the work I did will be there for many many years!! This month I finished my final sign for the newly refurbished Malcolm Arms at Boston. I have been working on and off the pub now for some three months and it certainly looks a lot different now from the tired run down establishment it had become before the present owners took over the reins and what a transformation Kevin and his family have made. With all their hard work the floral display is just beautiful as you can see below. They have really turned the pub around with all their effort both inside and outside and have already won an award well deserved if you ask me and I am sure it won't be long before there's more to follow.
This month I was pleased to get the job of painting all four of Neil Dowlmans shop fronts and also the four swinging signs which hang above the shops. They are situated in Boston, Horncastle, Alford and Louth so they are quite well spread around the county.
It was nice to work for Mr Dowlman again as he always keeps his shops in pristine condition making them a pleasure to work on. You may remember I painted his Louth shop some three years ago so it was great to be asked back once again. You can see the four shops below what do you think? This month I painted some more trailer curtains for "Race Distribution". The curtains are about forty five foot long and it is hard work moving the curtains around to mark out. But when you see one of the trailers pass you on the road it is very rewarding and all the pulling and pushing is soon forgotten. It was a nice dry job to do as the rain fell outside.. But Is it just me or do these lorry sheets seem to be getting bigger and bigger .
September has started with a fantastic job, as I got the chance to letter a classic Bedford lorry for Sharpes of Well Hill, Hougham. The lorry which has been stripped, rebuilt and restored to a very high standard by Robert for promoting his family business at local shows it really is a credit to him. I am sure it will turn many heads And create lots of smiles. Sharpes haulage company celebrate the fantastic milestone of ninety years in business next year so Robert asked me to put this on the doors as you can see above. The lorry really was a joy to work on and once again a big thank yo to Robert for trusting me with his treasured Bedford.
