We also decided to have a coffee at the "Petwood Hotel" and whilst there we were thrilled to be witness to a fly over by the only two Lancaster Bombers still flying in the world!!. Quickly I got my video out and filmed the second fly over which you can see above. It was a really great moment and made the hairs stand out from our necks. Yes it`s true to say living close to Woodhall we do see the Lancaster, Spitfire, Dacota and Hurricane very often over our house but to see both Lancasters together and in such a wonderful setting ( The Petwood was after all the 617 Officers mess) was truly an honour and another great memory for me to saver when hopefully I repaint John`s sign in another 8 years. |
This week I was called upon to restore an old "A board" which I had painted some 8 years ago. The A board is at John Archer`s (a lovely bloke) In Woodhall Spa and was in super condition for it`s age and the only problem was the colours had faided slightly due to the sun beating on it over the years. John told me he had had several offers for the sign over the years which pleased me very much maybe they were just short of logs for their woodburners!!. I like seeing old signs I have worked on over the years and can usually remember what I was listening to and thinking about when I painted that particular sign. On that occasion I had been listening to Meatloaf`s Bat out of Hell album and I have fond memories of buying a new TV the same week. It`s funny how we remember these things. As for Meatloaf I have aged and now listen to talking books with Audible on my phone which I can recommend to everyone. I usualy switch on after marking out my letters and checking my work. At the moment I am listning to "The Lost Village" by Richard Askwith where Richard talks about the sad decline of village life and craft interviewing old villagers on his travels and just for the record it is very good so far but a little sad. Anyway, back to my sign as you can see below the before and after shots, basically it was just a case of refreshing the colours I hope you think it has been successful and worthwhile. The customer was pleased and that is the aim.
